Event Details KalaPriya Dance School Conducts Dance Classes. Founded in 1994 by Pranita Jain, Kalapriya offers Bharatanatyam dance lessons, on a city-wide basis, for the cultural development of both children and adults. It specializes in classical east Indian dance Bharatanatyam, that uses stylized hand gestures, theatrical facial statements and complicated footwork to visualize poetry, mythological stories and complicated rhythms and counter rhythms from India. Kalapriya comprises of dancers trained in the discipline of Bharatanatyam under traditional gurus. Since 1999, Kalapriya added a new dimension to its performances by giving dance recitals accompanied by a trio of guest musicians from India. Kalapriya has performed extensively in the USA for a variety of audience at colleges, universities, museums, ethnic festivals and schools. Admission to the school is accomplished through an interview process; students must show a keen aptitude and interest in order to enroll in classes. Classes are conducted in a manner as to prepare young students for further professional studies, and older students for professional work. In addition to the regular schedule of classes, special workshops with guest instructors are held for advanced students.
